April 08 New Line Marking

New lines have recently been painted on the asphalt areas in the playground. The children can now play four square, basketball, netball, volleyball, bat tennis and hop-scotch. It has been great to see the new enthusiasm the children have shown for these games since the lines were painted. We are also able to play many other games during Sport sessions now that we have lines again.

Landcare Excursion

On 21st May the children will be involved in a community Landcare project. The children will be involved in the planting of indigenous plant species along the walking track leading down to the Blue Rock Dam. Children will walk down the the dam where the Lions Club will provide a sausage sizzle with funding received from the Baw Baw Shire. Due to funding from the Bendigo Bank, the children will be involved in painting of bollards which will also be incorporated along the walking track. This will occur over the next few months.

Springvale Primary School Visit is a Huge Success

On Tuesday May the 20th 75 grade 3/4/5 students from Springvale Primary School and their teachers came to visit us a Willow Grove. This is the second time that children from both schools have met. Last year the students from Willow Grove travelled to Springvale for the day. Today's visit commenced when Springvale arrived at Willow Grove at 10:30. After a quick orientation walk the students from both schools met at a welcome assembly, which was followed by recess. After recess the 150 students were split into 6 groups and participated in a 'friendship type activity' in the different classrooms. At 12:15 we all walked to the picnic area at the Blue Rock Dam for a BBQ and a play. The walk was a lot of fun, the sausages were terrific and the children had a great time playing on the huge grass at the picnic area. Special thanks must go to all the wonderful parents who did such a great job of cooking such a delicious lunch, for so many people. At about 1:45 the Springvale students boarded the buses  for the journey back to Springvale. The time went quickly and the Willow Grove students said that they would have liked to have spent more time with the Springvale kids. On their return to school the Willow Grove students said that the day had been a lot of fun, it had been great to see people they had met last year again and it was great to make new friends. It is planned that Willow Grove will visit Springvale again later in the year.

Night School

On Tuesday 27th May, students will attend school during the evening (6.30-8.00pm. Parents are invited to attend school during this time. We have chosen this time to enable working parents to attend. This will be an opportunity for parents to see some of the activities that their children participate in, particularly how the new interactive whiteboards are being used in the classrooms. Students will attend school for a normal day on Tuesday and return at 6.20pm in the evening to resume class. On Wednesday students will not be required to attend school until 10.30am to allow children to have a rest. The school bus will run on a revised timetable. (Timetable will be distributed to bus travellers). Parents are to notify Ann if they work on Wednesdays and need children at school at the normal time of 8.45am. Provision will be made for these working parents.

125 year School Celebrations

This year we are celebrating 125 years of schooling in Willow Grove. To commemorate this event, we are creating a new school entry pathway into the school building.

A path using pavers will be constructed. Each child attending the school will be asked to design their own individual paver which will then be chemically etched into the paving brick. Any family (present or past) who would like to purchase a paver or pavers can also do so.
