Year 6 to Year 7 Transition

The formal transition process from Primary to Secondary school begins early in Term 2 each year.

If you are uncertain about which secondary school to choose, we strongly encourage you and your family to visit secondary school open days, attend information nights or contact the school/s directly to make an appointment for a personalised tour. We advise all parents/carers to take these steps when choosing a primary school or secondary school for their child. At these tours and open days, you will be able to hear and see first-hand the programs offered and most importantly get a feel for the type of school it is and whether it would suit your child.

Year 6 to Year 7 Placement 2027 Key Dates for Parents

From week 1 of Term 2 of 2026	Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack provided to parents/carers by their primary school. This pack includes the Application for year 7 Placement 2027 Form
Friday, 8^th May 2026	Parents/carers return the Application for year 7 Placement 2027 Form to their primary school
Wednesday, 24^th June 2026	Primary school informs parents/carers in writing of Year 7 placement offers
Wednesday, 24^th June 2026	Non-placement appeals process commences
Thursday, 25^th June 2026	Secondary schools may commence distributing transition and orientation information to parents/carers.
Friday, 17^th July 2026	Closing date for parents/carers to lodge an appeal with their preferred secondary school using the 'Appeal Form'.
Tuesday, 11^th August 2026	Parents/Carers return Year 7 Placement Acceptance Slip to their primary school
Tuesday, 8^th December 2026	State-wide transition day. Secondary schools host an Orientation Day for Year 6 students.
