Year 6 to Year 7 Transition

The formal transition process from Primary to Secondary school begins early in Term 2 each year.

If you are uncertain about which secondary school to choose, we strongly encourage you and your family to visit secondary school open days, attend information nights or contact the school/s directly to make an appointment for a personalised tour. We advise all parents/carers to take these steps when choosing a primary school or secondary school for their child. At these tours and open days, you will be able to hear and see first-hand the programs offered and most importantly get a feel for the type of school it is and whether it would suit your child.

Year 6 to Year 7 Placement 2026 Key Dates for Parents

From week 1 of Term 2 of 2025	Year 6 to 7 Placement Information Pack provided to parents/carers by their primary school. This pack includes the Application for year 7 Placement 2026 Form
Friday, 9^th May 2025	Parents/carers return the Application for year 7 Placement 2026 Form to their primary school
Tuesday, 1^st July 2025	Primary school informs parents/carers in writing of Year 7 placement offers
Tuesday, 1^st July 2025	Non-placement appeals process commences
Wednesday, 2nd July 2025	Secondary schools may commence distributing orientation, and other transition information to parents/carers of students who have a Year 7 placement offer for 2026.
Friday, 25th July 2025	Closing date for parents/carers to lodge a written appeal with their preferred secondary school.
Tuesday, 12^th August 2025	Parents/Carers return Year 7 Placement Acceptance Slip to their primary school
Tuesday, 9^th December 2025	State-wide transition day. Secondary schools host an Orientation Day for Year 6 students.
